After a long gap, a good spell of Monsoon rain is approaching Peninsular India. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, light to moderate rain along with isolated heavy showers are expected over rain deficient region.
A trough is seen extending from Rayalaseema up to Gulf of Mannar across Tamil Nadu and this will be responsible for causing good weather activity over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema.
Skymet predicts that rainy spell will be a prolonged one and Monsoon showers will continue during next 4 to 5 days. These rains will also help in improving the deficiency. Peninsular India has been receiving scattered light rain but has not got any significant rain for quite some time now.
Several parts of the region have already started witnessing rain, out of which Tamil Nadu has recorded good rainfall. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Madurai received 43 mm of rain followed by Vellore 39 mm, Karaikal 2 mm and Kodaikanal 1.4 mm.
Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh also observed 35 mm and 4 mm of rain, respectively. Rest of the parts witnessed scattered light rain only.
