But the last time of the year will be quite cold from North India to the Gangetic plains and central parts.

At present, the weather is clear on the mountains of North India. On December 24, a weak Western Disturbance will move towards North India, due to which there is a possibility of partial cloud cover and light rain or drizzle at some places in Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Ladakh.

The active Western Disturbance will reach close to the mountains on 26 December and for the next 3 days i.e. till 28 December, this system will remain on North India. Due to this effect, there is a possibility of rain and snowfall in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Uttarakhand from 26 to 28 December. This snowfall is expected between December 25 to December 31, so tourists have full opportunity to enjoy it.

Snowfall can be found at many hill stations like Gulmarg, Kulgam, Pahalgam, Srinagar, Lahaul Spiti, Shimla, Una, Dharamshala, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Chamoli. But be aware that avalanches and landslides also occur in some mountainous areas due to heavy snowfall. Also, roads are closed due to heavy snow accumulation on the roads. That is, where there will be a thrill of snowfall, there will be a possibility of disrupting traffic and increasing the challenge in the areas near the mountains.

The weather will change over the plains due to the effect of western disturbance on 26 and 27 December when the cities of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, western Uttar Pradesh and northern Rajasthan will be cloudy. There may also be rain in these parts. However, the possibility of rain is more in the Terai areas of Punjab and Haryana as well as the Terai regions of western Uttar Pradesh. The southern parts of these states and Delhi are not likely to get more than a drizzle or light rain.

Before the rains, cold wave will prevail in some areas of North-West India, whereas between 26 to 28 December, the temperature will increase. Then the cold northwest winds will show their effect once the weather clears. Overall, one can say that the farewell of December and the arrival of New Year 2021 are expected to be in the midst of bitter cold.
