In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Kurukshetra in Haryana witnessed heavy showers of 72 mm, followed by Ambala at 59 mm, Karnal 32 mm. While moderate to light showers occurred over Punjab also, Jalandhar recorded 51 mm of rain, Patiala 11 mm, Amritsar 23 mm and Chandigarh 11 mm of rain.
Earlier the weather of these two states remained almost dry, the reason being the weak Western Disturbances affecting Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Also, the Monsoon trough was running south of Punjab and Haryana.
Now, it is anticipated that the Monsoon trough will remain over northern parts of these states. Therefore, good showers are likely mainly over northern districts of these states. Places like Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, and Patiala in Punjab while, Ambala, Karnal, Chandigarh, and Yamunanagar in Haryana may receive good rains.
