Warm and uncomfortable weather conditions were being observed over several parts of East India during the last few days.

Day temperatures had increased significantly resulting in a summer like feel over the entire region.

However, good showers provided the much needed relief for the residents of Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.

The weather system, which developed over Gangetic West Bengal and is presently seen over Central India has resulted in widespread rain over East India including Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.

This rainy spell has resulted in a drop in day temperatures bringing in relief from uncomfortable afternoons. Due to isolated showers in Bihar, maximums have also witnessed a drop here.

Kolkata received heavy rain during this time. In fact, the city of Joy broke several rain records on Wednesday. After receiving 96 mm rain in 24 hours, not only did the state capital surpassed the monthly average, but it also broke an over a 100-year old record of 80.6 mm in the year 1906.

While rainfall activity has reduced over the other parts of East India, Odisha continues to receive good showers. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Chandbali recorded 20 mm of rain, Puri 10 mm, and Jharsuguda 3 mm.

Isolated showers also occurred over Jharkhand and Bihar with Bhagalpur recording 3 mm of rain, and Ranchi observing traces of rain.

Now, for the next 4 to 5 days, a dry spell will occur over the region. Temperatures will witness a slight rise, and conditions will remain comfortable.
