June 7, 2024 2:26 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Bengaluru had a decent monsoon week to start with. The city has amassed 152.5mm of rainfall in the first week of June, which is way ahead of its monthly normal of 110.3mm. This includes the extremely heavy spell, with stormy conditions, observed on 02nd June. The tech city can expect good showers today in the later part of the day. Light rainfall may continue tomorrow, at similar timings. Thereafter, the rains are going to recede and become rather scanty. And, it may go on for the following week.

Currently, a north-south trough is extending from North Interior Karnataka to South Tamil Nadu, across Rayalaseema and South Interior Karnataka. Also, there is an east-west oriented shear zone north of Bengaluru, around 15°N. There is a decent monsoon stream along the coastline of Kerala and Coastal Karnataka. This feature is likely to weaken after about 24 hours and remain so for nearly one week.

Under the influence of these conditions, the city is likely to receive moderate rain and thundershowers, today. Most of the activity will occur in the evening and night. The spread and intensity may also vary in different parts of the city. In the next week, broadly, the rains will substantially reduce. Still, light, brief and fleeting showers can not be ruled out over some parts of the city. Overall conditions will remain pleasant. Mercury will stay with a maximum of around 30°C and a minimum dropping to cosy 20°C. Heavy rains are unlikely over the city for 7-10 days.
