The pristine fairy land, Northeast India, is an amalgamation of splendour and serenity. Its essence is heightened by frequent spells of rain since the beginning of the pre-monsoon season. During the main pre-monsoon months of April and May, the maximum rainfall contribution comes from Northeast India, followed by South India.

Northeast India, comprising of the seven states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur, has received widespread rain in last 24 hours.

In Assam, Silchar received 65.4 mm of rain, Dibrugarh 23 mm, Guwahati 9.1 mm, Dhubri 23 mm, Goalpara 24.4 mm, Jorhat 8.3 mm and Lumding 23 mm of rain.

In Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar and Pasighat received 9.3 mm of rain each.

Cherrapunji and Shillong in Meghalaya received 43.6 mm and 26 mm of rain, respectively. Lengpui in Mizoram received 57.6 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Saturday.

Fairly widespread rain with heavy at isolated places will continue over the region for the next 2 to 3 days. As have been reiterated by Skymet, the cyclonic circulation over Assam and Meghalaya is bringing rain in Northeast India. A trough could also be seen extending from this system to south Odisha across Jharkhand. Humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are also feeding moisture to the system. Rain will gradually decrease as the system moves away.
