The state of Tamil Nadu did not have a good monsoon run throughout the season. In fact, the state did not receive very good rains and the region remained rain deficient.

However, since the last few days the state has been recording a few good spells of rainfall. In fact, the last 24 hours have been quite rainy for the state. So much so that Tamil Nadu is witnessing a rainfall surplus of 12 percent at present.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Tondi recorded a whopping 50 mm of rain, Madurai 23 mm, Thanjavur 35 mm, Karaikal 15 mm, Salem 13 mm, and Tiruchchirapalli 10 mm.

These weather conditions have been attributed to the presence of a trough which is running from Rayalaseema up to the Gulf of Mannar. Due to this, moisture incursion has been increasing over the region and rainfall activity has been taking place.
