After a long time, widespread rain has occurred over the North Indian Plains. Good showers were observed over Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. Some of these areas also witnessed hailstorm.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Hisar received 15 mm of rainfall, Churu 11 mm, Safdarjung Observatory 6 mm, Palam Observatory 4 mm, Bikaner 2 mm, Ambala and Patiala 6 mm each, Chandigarh 2 mm, and Amritsar 2 mm.
Meanwhile, Mathura and Etah in Uttar Pradesh witnessed some hailstorm activity.
These rains have occurred due to the induced cyclonic circulation, presently over North Rajasthan and adjoining Punjab and Haryana, and its interaction with the prevailing Western Disturbance. The system is currently marked over Jammu and Kashmir and is moving in an eastward direction.
While this spell of rain is quite beneficial to the standing crops, mainly wheat, due to hailstorm and strong winds, some of these crops have been severely damaged. However, the proportion of damage is quite less.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures have witnessed a drop due to these rains. The temperatures will remain in check for the next 2 to 3 days. During the next 24 hours, rain is likely to continue over parts of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
