Maharashtra weather had remained dry during most of April. Temperatures were soaring and heatwave conditions were being observed over the region.

Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada, in particular, were observing dry weather conditions. As far as Vidarbha is concerned, the region has observed light on and off showers on a few occasions during the month of May. However, during the last 48 hours, good rains have occurred over some parts.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Solapur received 11 mm of rain followed by Buldhana where 7 mm of rain was recorded. Other areas to have received light rain include Yavatmal 6.2 mm, Nashik 4.4 mm, and Pune 3.7 mm.

Skymet has Automatic weather stations in many districts of Maharashtra, which keep a check on weather activities. Here is a look at the rainfall figures recorded by Skymet’s AWS:

Now, rains are likely to continue for the next 24 to 48 hours. While good showers will be observed over Madhya Maharashtra, isolated rainfall activity will be seen over Vidarbha and Marathwada. Thereafter, weather will remain dry for another 4 to 5 days.

However, Pre-Monsoon rains will once again pick up pace over South Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada during the next week. In fact, May 18 onward light rain is likely over parts of Maharashtra, which is expected to continue for 3-4 days.

The third week of May is one of the hottest periods in Marathwada. Thus, despite the scattered rainfall activity, conditions will remain sultry and temperatures will remain the high 30s.
