The southern peninsula of India has been receiving good showers for the past few days. So much so that many areas have been observing scattered light to moderate rains. The rainfall intensity has been on the higher side over the state of Kerala. However, other parts have also witnessed some good showers.
The last 24 hours have been no different, scattered rains have occurred over the region. A few areas have witnessed heavy to very heavy showers as well. In fact, some rains have even been recorded over the Lakshadweep Islands.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, one of the observatories in Kochi has witnessed a whopping 109 mm of rain, Coonoor 56 mm, Kodaikanal 53 mm, Palayankottai 38 mm, Punalur 19 mm, Amini Devi 16 mm, Alappuzha 8 mm and Coimbatore 15 mm.
These rains can be attributed to a feeble cyclonic circulation which is over the Kerala region. Also, a trough is extending from Lakshadweep to Tamil Nadu across the cyclonic circulation which is further enhancing the rainfall activities over the region.
During the next 24 to 48 hours, good rains will continue over many parts of South India including Tamil Nadu, Kerala and some parts of Karnataka as well. The intensity of rains will be on the higher side over the Kerala region.
