Updated on August 10, 2015: Light to moderate scattered rainfall has been witnessed in parts of Central India in the last 24 hours. Kota recorded extremely heavy rainfall and the city received 107 mm of rain in last 24 hours. In addition to this, Satna recorded 29 mm rainfall, Rewa 29 mm, Gwalior 5mm, Guna 3 mm, Solapur 1 mm, and Akola 1 mm.
In coming days, West and East Madhya Pradesh (MP) will continue to receive good amounts of rain. Gujarat and Saurashtra region will also observe good rainfall. Even Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are expected to receive good rain.
Konkan-Goa and Madhya Maharashtra will receive scattered rainfall. Marathwada region, which is badly in need of rains and is facing a rainfall deficiency, will also receive scattered light to moderate rainfall for next 48 hours which will benefit the crops in this region. After 48 hours, isolated light rainfall will continue over Marathwada.
Updated on August 9, 2015: This year, Monsoon rains have been very good in Central India as compared to other parts of the country. Only Northwest India is the better performer in terms of rainfall. By the end of June, Central India observed rain surplus of about 23 per cent.
Most areas in Central India observed excess rainfall except Marathwada. As of now, the only regions to record excess rainfall are West Madhya Pradesh at 44 per cent along with Saurashtra and Kutch at 26 per cent. Gujarat is rain deficient by 5 per cent which is considered to be normal.
Since the past one week or so, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Southeast Rajasthan have been receiving good amounts of rain. However, Gujarat and Odisha have observed subdued rainfall activity since the last few days.
Now, a cyclonic circulation is over North Chhattisgarh. The axis of Monsoon trough is also passing through the system. Also, a cyclonic circulation is over West-central Bay of Bengal along with another cyclonic circulation over North Bay of Bengal. These two circulations will merge together and enhance rainfall activity over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and East Madhya Pradesh in next 2 to 3 days.
This way, rains over Central India will not remain subdued. However, Marathwada which is 52 per cent rain deficient will continue to receive scanty rain only. West Madhya Pradesh along with other regions of Central India will also receive good rains. Occasional rain will be witnessed in entire Central India for the next one week.
