Heavy Monsoon showers were already predicted by Skymet Weather for the state of Maharashtra. And so does the last 24 hours did for the almost the entire state. However, the interior parts of the state recorded comparatively lesser rains than the districts lying in the coastal areas.

On one hand, cities such as Mumbai, Dahanu, Mahabaleshwar, Harnai, Thane, Bhira, Alibag and Ratnagiri have observed rainfall figures in three digits. While, the interior districts such as Pune, Nagpur, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Aurangabad have recorded light to moderate spells.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Dahanu recorded the highest rainfall of 305 mm, Mumbai 304 mm, Mahabaleshwar 248 mm, Harnai 222 mm, Thane 151 mm, Bhira 137 mm, Alibag 128.2 mm, Ratnagiri 110 mm, Gondia 50 mm, Satara 37 mm, Pune 30 mm, Nashik 20 mm, Kolhapur 15 mm, Aurangabad and Nagpur 7.6 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, these weather conditions can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation which is seen persisting over northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra region and adjoining Konkan area. Also, an offshore trough is seen extending from South Konkan up to Kerala. Moreover, an east-west trough can be marked from North Konkan up to Odisha coast across central parts of the country touching North Maharashtra.

Moreover, due to these weather systems, moderate rains with isolated heavy spells will continue to lash several districts of the state for the next 24 hours. In fact, moderate showers are likely over North Konkan region including Mumbai during the similar time period. On the other hand, light to moderate showers will continue over Marathwada, Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra region.

Thereafter, the intensity of these good Monsoon rains will gradually decrease over the entire state except for Vidarbha region. As a low-pressure area which is seen over Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand region is likely to move towards West.
