Good rains to continue over Chennai, parts of Tamil Nadu

Since the beginning of the month of August, Chennai rains have been lashing the region giving the residents of the capital city that much needed relief. These showers have remained in between light to moderate in intensity. However, there have been days when Chennai has seen dry days also.

In fact, a day before the city of Chennai did remain dry. However, rains revived again in Chennai during the last 24 hours. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on  Wednesday, the Nungambakkam observatory recorded 8 mm of rainfall.

As far as other parts of Tamil Nadu are concerned, heavy showers have made a comeback over the city of Chennai during the last 48 hours. Three digit rainfall activity has also made an appearance over many parts of the state as well.

In a span of 24 hours, Thanjavur recorded a whopping 110 mm of rainfall. Other parts of Tamil Nadu did receive a good spell of rainfall wherein Salem did receive 46 mm of rain, Atiramapattinam 13 mm, Kovilangulam 37 mm, and Kodaikanal 18 mm.

These weather conditions have been attributed to the trough which is running from the cyclonic circulation over central parts of the country up to Interior areas of Tamil Nadu.

Thus, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, light to moderate showers are expected to continue over interior areas of Tamil Nadu. The possibility of heavy spells of rain cannot be ruled out. However, Chennai will only be able to record a few light rainy spells.
