In the last 24 hours, many places of Uttar Pradesh have already recorded moderate to heavy showers, whereas Bihar recorded light to moderate rains.
These showers can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Varanasi recotrded 62 mm of heavy intensity rainfall, followed by Bahraich 54 mm, Gaya 45 mm, Aligarh 38 mm, Gorakhpur 36 mm, Farbesganj 27 mm, Shajahanpur 20 mm, Lucknow 12 mm, Moradabad 11 mm and Chhapra 10 mm. There were other districts of both states that recorded light rain activity including Muzaffarpur, Patna, Bareilly, Fursatganj, Hardoi and Kanpur.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, good rains will continue over central as well as eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh during the next two days. However, parts of the state of Bihar will continue with light to moderate rains.

After two days, the eastern end of the axis of Monsoon trough may move towards the south, leading to decrease in the rain activity over both these states.
As on August 23, East Uttar Pradesh is rain deficit by 20%, whereas West Uttar Pradesh by 36%. On the other hand, Bihar is rain surplus by 6%.
