Assam rains

The Southwest Monsoon has remained active over the Northeast India since last few days. In fact, heavy rainfall activities in several parts of the region are likely to continue for the next 24 hours.

According to the Skymet Weathermen, heavy rainfall may continue to occur at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday as well. Similarly, heavy rainfall is also likely to continue in isolated places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Now, these heavy rainfall activities are expected to decrease over the region. The reason for this withdrawal of rainfall activities over Assam can be attributed to a well marked low pressure area which is seen prevailing over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of Jharkhand.

Although some districts of West Assam may continue to record light to moderate rains and thundershowers, the overall intensity of the rainfall will come down significantly after 24 to 48 hours.

As on July 24, the subdivision of the state wise rainfall distribution statistics shows that Assam is rain deficient by 9%. Moreover, rains are likely to pick up the pace by the first week of August. Till then, subdued rainfall activities will be witnessed over Assam but the weather conditions will not go completely dry for the next few days.
