Good rains on cards for Punjab

Punjab-rain

Almost entire northwest India has been witnessing dry weather conditions from past many days now. An increase in the temperatures have also been observed over these areas including Punjab. In fact, the state has hardly received any rains in past 24 hours as well.

The state has been observing dry and humid weather conditions. The reason for this ongoing humid and dry weather can be attributed to the moist easterly winds that are tracking towards Punjab from the Bay of Bengal.

Due to these moist winds, humidity level over Punjab has scaled up significantly leading to discomfort particularly during afternoons.

As per Skymet Weather, now, a trough is expected to develop over Punjab particularly over the northern parts of the state. This is expected to give some good rains over the state by September 22.

Though this rain activity is not expected to last for long but September 22 and 23, thundershowers or rains are possible leading to pleasant weather conditions.

Normally, it is considered that Southwest Monsoon start withdrawing from Punjab but this year due to continuous easterly flow of winds, the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon has delayed.

However, we expect that after this episode of rainfall, Monsoon is likely to start withdrawing gradually from the western region of the country including Punjab.

Moreover, by the month end, westerly winds will start replacing the ongoing easterly winds leading to a fall in minimum temperatures. Thence, it could be marked as the beginning of winters.
