Good rainfall on cards for Northeastern states

February 19, 2017 12:06 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Northeastern states have been witnessing dry weather since last many days. However, isolated rain was observed over Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining parts of East Assam occasionally.

Normally, during this time of year, these states observe such type of weather conditions with occasional rain and thundershowers.

According to Skymet Weather, light rain is expected over parts of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the rain intensity as well as spread is likely to increase over the region including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. These states will record light to moderate showers from next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will also witness light to moderate rain and thundershowers, while light to very light rain may occur at one or two places over Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

The reason for these increased rains over the region can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bangladesh and neighbourhood. Also, an anti-cyclone is developing over north-central Bay of Bengal. In wake of this system, moderate winds from Bay of Bengal will increase the humidity levels, thus leading to cloud development and rain over the states of Northeast India.

Northeastern states are foreseen to witness some good spells of rain and thundershowers; however these rains are not expected to bring much change in the prevailing rainfall deficiency over the region.
