From last few days, most districts of northeastern states of India are witnessing decent rains. Normally during Southwest Monsoon, the Northeast states receive exceptional rainfall. But this year, till now, East and Northeast India is one of the most rain deficient region.
Entire northeastern states at present are rainfall deficit except Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. These are the only two states in the northeastern region that are enjoying normal Monsoon conditions.
On and off good rains are occurring over Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam from past few days. However, these rains are not good enough to decrease the rainfall deficiency of northeast India.
Let’s have a look at the rains observed over the northeastern states during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday:
The low pressure area which was over Gangetic West Bengal has shifted towards Jharkhand. Moreover, the southerly winds from Bay of Bengal are also reaching over northeast India.
This would in turn increase the moisture over the region and hence, few good showers are likely to continue over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh for another 3-4 days.
Many areas are likely to receive moderate showers with possibility of heavy rains as well. However, NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura) are expected to continue with slightly lesser rains. These states are likely to witness light to moderate rains.
The Northeast India is at present witnessing rainfall deficiency of 13%. Further, these light rains are not likely to apprehend much in the rainfall statistics.
