Good rains likely in Mumbai, Pune; Nagpur, Nashik to remain dry

Mumbai city has recorded light spell of rain between the time span of 3 pm and 4 pm today. In fact, Skymet Weather reiterates that these rains are likely to continue for another 24 hours before reducing. Thereafter, the rains over the city of dreams may witness a declining trend and from October 16, the dry spell over the city will once again take over.

The state of Maharashtra has been witnessing good rainfall activities during the month of October. Along with this, the South Coastal stations of Maharashtra have been witnessing some good amount of rains while the Madhya Maharashtra region has been observing moderate spells of showers. In fact, Vidarbha and Marathwada region have also been witnessing scattered light rains. In fact, in the last 24 hours, Pune recorded a whopping 101 mm of rains.

The other regions of the state that recorded rains within the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, include Vengurla that recorded 54 mm of rains, Osmanabad 27 mm, Bhira 25 mm, Udgir 14 mm, Sangli 13.4 mm, Ahmednagar 9.5 mm, Parbhani 9 mm, Harnai 4.4 mm, Mahabaleshwar 4 mm, Kolhapur 2.3 mm, Nagpur 2 mm, Aurangabad 1.3 mm and Amaravati, Nashik and Mumbai 1 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to a trough which is seen moving across Madhya Maharashtra. Now, this weather system is seen moving towards the south, however, it is likely to weaken marginally. In addition, a cyclonic circulation which is also seen over east central Arabian Sea is now likely to move away from the Coast.

Due to the effect of these weather systems, moderate rains with one or two spells of heavy showers are likely to confide to the South coastal stations of Maharashtra and South Madhya Maharashtra region during the next 24 to 48 hours. While, light rain and thundershowers are likely to continue over North Konkan, Marathwada and remaining parts of Madhya Maharashtra during the similar time frame.

Districts such as Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Pune, Vengurla, Sangli, Satara, Solapur and Belgaon will witness good rains during the next two days.

As per the weathermen at Skymet Weather, these rains are expected to reduce gradually over the state of Maharashtra after 48 hours. During this time, dry spells are likely to take over the entire state. Talking about the City of Dreams, Mumbai city will witness light showers during the next 24 hours. However, the intensity of these rains is expected to further reduce.

As on October 13, the sub-divisional rainfall distribution statistics show that Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan & Goa region are all rain surplus by 38%, 97%, 69% and 26%, respectively.
