Kerala rains have been lashing the state from the last 3-4 days. In fact, the last 48 hours were very heavy in terms of rains for the state and all this is because of the commencement of Northeast Monsoon over Tamil Nadu.

In the last 24 hours also, Kerala has been lashed by moderate to heavy spells. Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Thursday, Kochi recorded heavy showers to the tune of 62 mm, followed by Thiruvananthapuram with 22 mm of rains, Kottayam 15.2 mm, Udhagamandalam 13 mm and Punalur recorded 8.4 mm of showers.

As per Skymet Weather, Kerala rains are now likely to intensify as the cyclonic circulation persists over the Southeast Arabian Sea near Lakshadweep and Maldives. Moreover, a Low-Pressure Area also persists over Sri Lanka Coast.

In the wake of these two weather systems, now, the rain intensity over parts of Kerala is likely to increase and will continue to prevail over the region for the next 48 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of these showers will, however, reduce but on and light spells will continue to drench the parts of the state.

As per Skymet Weather, the rainfall activity will be confined more to the north-coastal stations of the state. Districts such as Kozhikode, Kannur, and Karipur will be affected more with moderate to isolated heavy rains in contrast with the stations lying along the southern coastal belt of the state in districts such as Thiruvananthapuram, Palayamkottai, and Punalur that are anticipated to witness light to moderate spells.
