A feeble cyclonic circulation that was present over northwest Arabian Sea in last few days has led to rainfall over the west Coast of India. Also, a trough from the system is extending up to Karnataka. These two systems have given good rains over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka, Maharashtra Coast as well as some areas in South Gujarat.
In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Karwar in Karnataka recorded a whopping 116 mm of rainfall, while Bhira in Coastal Maharashtra received 88 mm of rain, Amreli 55 mm rain. Honavar recorded 45 mm of rainfall, Mumbai 21 mm, Agumbe 20 mm, Gulbarga 24 mm, Bijapur 20 mm, and Raichur 44 mm.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rainfall intensity will increase over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka. Coastal Karnataka, which usually receives good rains during Monsoon, is deficient by 28 percent. On the other hand, North Interior Karnataka, where subdued rainfall activity is witnessed throughout the Monsoon season. Here the rainfall deficiency stands at 26 percent.
Rainfall was subdued over North Interior Karnataka between the months of June and August. However, during September, good Monsoon showers were observed. Fairly widespread rain has been lashing the region for the past few days.
Good rains will continue over North Interior and Coastal Karnataka for the next 48 hours. However, the intensity of rain over South Gujarat will decrease as the cyclonic circulation has fizzled out.
