As reiterated by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Northeast India is presently witnessing fresh spell of good rains. Moderate to heavy rains have been recorded over several parts of the region during last 24 hours but intensity of rain has been more over Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura (NMMT).
According to Skymet, a low pressure area in North Bay of Bengal has been responsible for the weather activity over the region. The system is expected to become more marked and continue to move northwards.
With this, rain activity will increase over NMMT, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and eastern parts of Assam. Skymet predicts, this wet spell is expected for next 2-3 days. Thereafter, scattered light to moderate rain will continue but intensity will reduce significantly.
Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.
Though rains have picked up during last 24 hours but maiden week of October did not witness satisfactory activity over Northeast region. NMMT has been rain-deficient by 40% during the period October 1-7. Scanty rains were observed over Arunachal Pradesh with 77% rain deficiency and 70% for Assam and Meghalaya during the same period.
Southwest Monsoon that officially ended on September 30, also did not fair too well. As on September 30, NMMT was rain-deficient by 30%. However, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh managed to receive normal rainfall.
