Southwest Monsoon 2017 has made its onset over almost the entire country. However, even now, almost the entire Punjab, a few areas of Haryana and parts of Rajasthan have still not gotten the taste of those Monsoon showers. Chandigarh and Ambala are two of these areas where Monsoon has not yet set foot.

As far as rainy days are concerned, the joint capital city has been witnessing on and off light rainfall activity for the past three to four days. In fact, during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Chandigarh recorded a mere 4 mm of rain while Ambala witnessed a good 21 mm of rainfall.
Meanwhile, rain and thundershowers have been occurring over the city of Rock Garden and Ambala since the morning hours. The rainfall intensity is slightly higher as compared to the previous days.
These weather conditions can be attributed to the presence of the trough which is running from North Punjab in proximity of the city of Chandigarh.

Thus, moisture incursion has been taking place resulting in light rains over some parts with heavy showers over the region. In fact, the neighbouring area of Amritsar has recorded a whopping 153 mm of rainfall.
As per Skymet Weather, good rains are expected to continue over Chandigarh as well as Ambala and its adjoining areas today. So much so, that the city may also witness a few good spells of rainfall tomorrow.
With this, Southwest Monsoon is expected to make an onset over the rest of Punjab and Haryana anytime now in the next 24 to 48 hours.
