On and off rains of varying intensity have been occurring over most parts of Maharashtra since the beginning of the month. Heavy showers remained away from the state till now for what it is famed for.

Since last 2 to 3 days, light with isolated moderate rains have occurred over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra. During this period, parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha also witnessed light spells on few occasions.
These rains can be attributed to the westerly winds that have increased the moisture level over the region. In addition, a cyclonic circulation is over Kutch and adjoining areas.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Ratnagiri recorded moderate rainfall to the tune of 37 mm, Sangli 26 mm, Gondia 20 mm, Vengurla 13 mm, Parbhani 9 mm, Sholapur 9 mm, Ahmednagar 8 mm, Mahabaleshwar 8 mm, Thane 8 mm, Harnai 4 mm, Alibag 3 mm, Bhira 4 mm and Nashik 1 mm of light rain.
Now, the cyclonic circulation prevailing over Odisha Coast is likely to increase the rain activity. This weather feature is expected to become more marked and move in westerly direction during the next 48 hours.

As per Skymet Weather, good rains will commence over Vidarbha and parts of Marathwada during the next 24 hours. Moderate rains are likely with few heavy spells. Rains are expected to continue over both aforementioned regions for few days.
Likewise, the rain intensity will increase over Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa during this period.
