West Bengal is one such region that witnessed few very heavy spell of rain during entire month of August. So much so that Kolkata received more than double of its monthly mean rainfall. In August Kolkata received over 600 mm of rain.

And the month of September is also on the path of receiving heavy rainfall as a fresh weather system has already formed over North Bay of Bengal just south of Gangetic West Bengal. This weather system is a cyclonic circulation which is on the verge of becoming a low pressure area soon.

The low pressure area is likely to move in a northward direction and gradually shift towards Gangetic West Bengal. This weather system is likely to provide some moderate spell of rains at many places of the state and heavy to very heavy rainy spells at few places.

Most parts of the state including sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will continue with such heavy spell for next 2-3 days. Extremely heavy showers over the capital city of Kolkata can be expected as well.

At present, for the entire Monsoon season, the Gangetic West Bengal has received normal rainfall of 3% and sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim is slightly at par with 5% rainfall on the negative side. All these figures are likely to go up as heavy rains are about to pour in.
