Good rains in Mumbai, Nagpur, Akola; Pune, Nashik to get light showers

Good rains continued over many parts of Maharashtra on the last day as well. However, the intensity remained varied from moderate to heavy over Vidarbha and Konkan region. Meanwhile, parts of Madhya Maharashtra recorded light to moderate Monsoon rains. The Marathwada region, on the other hand, remained almost dry with some light rains only.

Skymet Weather had already predicted of reduction in the rainfall however despite this, all the divisions of the state are rainfall surplus. As on June 28, Konkan is rain surplus by 47%, Marathwada 39%, Madhya Maharashtra 15%, and Vidarbha is rainfall surplus 12%.

The reason for these rains can be attributed with the offshore trough extending from South Gujarat to Coastal Kerala. Along with this, an east-west trough is also running from Vidarbha via Madhya Pradesh and South Chhattisgarh.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Nagpur recorded 69 mm of rains, Wardha 66 mm, Dahanu 37 mm, Mahabaleshwar 36 mm, Mumbai’s Santa Cruz Observatory recorded 29 mm, Bramhapuri 26 mm, Ratnagiri 23 mm, Colaba 19 mm, Vengurla 17 mm, Gondia 13 mm, Kolhapur 11 mm, Chandrapur 7 mm, Yeotmal 6 mm, and Nashik recorded 2 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, now, Vidarbha and Konkan division would continue to get good rains for the next two days, on the other hand, Madhya Maharashtra may get to witness isolated showers.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

In the wake of rains, farmers are advised to continue transplanting of rice, continue land preparation and sowing of groundnut and other Kharif crops. Farmers are also advised to complete the plantation of fruit crops like Mango and Jack fruit.

For Madhya Maharashtra, farmers should start the plantation of sugarcane after giving fungicides or insecticides treatment.
