The southern parts of the country have been witnessing good rainfall activities for the past few days. In fact, some areas have also been seeing a few heavy showers as well. These rains were also seen over these areas during the last 24 hours as well.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Kochi recorded 34 mm of rainfall, Kodaikanal saw 23 mm of rains, Alappuzha witnessed 18 mm of rainfall, Madurai 7 mm, Palakkad 6 mm, and Valparai 4 mm.
Talking about Tamil Nadu region, an upper air cyclonic circulation is over extreme southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast. A trough is also extending from this system up to North Tamil Nadu coast. This system is moving in a west-northwest direction.
Thus, light to moderate rainfall activity is expected over interior parts of Tamil Nadu while the coastal parts may also see some rainfall. These conditions are expected to continue for another 48 to 72 hours.
Meanwhile, an upper air trough is extending from South Coastal Tamil Nadu to North Interior Karnataka. Due to this, light to moderate rains are expected over the states of Kerala as well as South Interior Karnataka for a few days.
