Since last 2-3 days, heavy to extremely heavy rains are going on in many parts of Uttarakhand including Dehradun.
During last 24 hours, from 08:30 am as on Sunday, Dehradun has witnessed rainy showers of 73 mm. Earlier to this, the city observed good rains of 75 mm on July 16.
The average monthly rainfall observed by the city is 662.4 mm and till date, Dehradun has observed rains of 365 mm only which is almost half of the total monthly average rains.
As per Skymet Weather, there is possibility of good rains along with thunderstorms in parts of Dehradun for next 2- 3 days. These incessant and swarming rains have reported to have claimed lives of almost 12 people in different parts of the state.
Other regions of Uttarakhand have also received heavy Monsoon showers. Almora, Champavat, Haridwar, Mussorie, Mukteshwar have observed exceptional rains.
At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through North Uttar Pradesh near the foothills and Western Disturbance lies over Jammu & Kashmir. Due to combined effect of these weather systems, heavy rains are likely to continue over Uttarakhand including Dehradun for next 24 hours. Thereafter, next spell of good rains will commence on July 21 and may continue till July 23.
As on July 17, Uttarakhand is rain surplus by 20%. Good rains are in fortune for the city and it can be said that this surplus of the state as a whole might go up.
