After remaining dry for almost 10 days, as predicted by Skymet Weather, during the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities were observed over Chennai and its nearby areas.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Chennai’s Meenambakkam Observatory recorded 46 mm of rain. Meanwhile, rain intensity was less over the Nungambakkam region, as it recorded only 7 mm of rain.

At present, the active passage of easterly waves over the Indian Ocean and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal has formed a trough off the Tamil Nadu Coast.

Therefore, in association with the above weather system, during the next 24 hours also, moderate rains with heavy showers in isolated pockets are expected to continue over Chennai and its adjoining areas.

Rains will now continue over Chennai for the coming three days i.e. till December 7. But after 48 hours, intensity of these rains will start reducing and light to moderate rainfall will be observed.

In fact, due to the cloudy to overcast sky conditions over the city, the day temperatures will drop and settle in high 20’s. Meanwhile, night temperatures will continue to settle in mid-20’s.
