In East India, almost all the states are rain deficient right from East Uttar Prdaesh to West Bengal. Only Odisha is that one state which is rainfall surplus by 14%.
This time, weather systems such as a low-pressure area or cyclonic circulations which developed over Bay of Bengal moved in westerly/northwesterly direction. Odisha did record good rainfall activity as compared to all the other states.
Clearly, these systems failed to give enough rains over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and East Uttar Pradesh. This was also the main reason that attributed to the rain deficiency over these states. Moreover, the axis of Monsoon also remained south of its normal position.
Now, as the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, rainfall activity has increased over these states since the last two days.
Further also, we expect good rains to continue over entire East India for the next four to five days. However, rain intensity will be less over East Uttar Pradesh and southern districts of Odisha in comparison to Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Therefore, we expect rain deficiency of East India to come down to some extent towards the end of this week.
