Good rains for Interior Tamil Nadu; Chennai to settle with light spells

Southwest Monsoon seems to be in full swing as it is lashing lavishly over the southern states of the country. Most of the southern regions are witnessing good Monsoon showers as against the so called dry spells that have been occurring in North India.

The last 24 hours were no less than an episode of heavy Monsoon rains for the state of Tamil Nadu. The famous tourist spot, Kodaikanal that has recorded normal rains in the month of September got to record three-digit rains.

Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Kodaikanal recorded 104 mm of hefty rains followed by Madurai that recorded 85 mm of rains. Udhgamandalam and Coimbatore were also no less and observed 34 mm and 28 mm of rains respectively. Though the capital city Chennai failed to record good showers and had to manage with light traces of 3 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, a trough is extending from Madhya Maharashtra to South Tamil Nadu across Karnataka. Moreover, an embedded cyclonic circulation is also seen over Karnataka.

In the wake of this, the interior regions of the state will continue to witness light to moderate showers while light rains are in store for the capital city Chennai for the next 24-48 hours.
