The west coastal region of the country has been under the influence of good Monsoon showers. Ranging from light to moderate and heavy showers, rains along the West Coast has been occurring almost daily. The reason for these rains is the active offshore trough running along the West Coast.
In the last 24 hours also, the West Coastal region particularly, South Konkan and coastal Karnataka had received light to moderate rains. However, rains over Kerala coast were of light intensity. Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Goa recorded 24 mm of rains, Harnai 16 mm, Honavar 15.2 mm, Mangalore 13.2 mm, Vengurla 9 mm, Mumbai 7 mm and Kozhikode recorded 2 mm of light rains.

As per Skymet Weather, as of now, good rains are likely to continue over coastal Karnataka. However, light intensity rains are likely to occur in North Konkan and Kerala coast until August 24. Thereafter, the offshore trough is expected to become active once again thereby resulting in the rains to increase over the entire West Coast.

After August 25, moderate to heavy showers are possible over coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa until August 28. During that time, a fresh surge of Monsoon rains will lash most parts of Konkan & Goa, coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
Few good spells are in store for Mumbai also on the festive day of the auspicious Marathi festival ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ that is on August 25.
