Good rains ahead for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, hailstorm likely

March 18, 2020 9:08 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Entire Northwest plains experienced good rainfall during the pre-Monsoon season between March 1 to March 17. In fact, all the states of Northwest India have recorded excess rainfall.

Thes reason for these rains can be attributed to two intense Western Disturbances that approached the region during this time. These Western Disturbances have given good rains and thundershowers during the first half of March in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan, and West Uttar Pradesh. Not only this, but isolated hailstorm activities along with strong gusty winds were also witnessed over these areas. Even some areas reported damage to the standing Rabi crops.

The weather is almost dry in the plains of North India from the past two to three days.

Looking at the forecast, in the absence of any significant weather system, we do not expect any weather activity in Northern plains for the next two days. Although feeble Western Disturbances will approach, their impact will remain negligible.

On March 21, there may be isolated rain and thunderstorm activities in Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi.

A strong Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas on March 24. This weather system will further induce a Cyclonic Circulation in the plains of the North.

In the wake of the above-mentioned weather system, we expect fairly widespread rain and thundershowers in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh on March 24.

However, the intensity of these weather activities will be more on March 25. Also, at the same time, we expect thundershowers along with strong gusty winds and hailstorm activities in the entire plains of North India.

According to our meteorologists, we expect similar weather activities to continue until March 26. During the same episode of this rainy spell, the maximums will register a drop by three to four degrees.

On March 27, the Western Disturbance will move away eastwards. The Cyclonic Circulation will also fade away further leading to clear and dry weather conditions. During this time, the maximums will start rising once again. This is when the day temperatures will settle above 30 degrees Celsius at many places.
