Since last many days rain activity over Northeastern states of India remained passive which is unlikely for the region as this is that time of the year when rain and thundershower activity occurs frequently.
Rain activity will remain restricted due to lack of moisture incursion in the form of southerly and southeasterly winds from Bay of Bengal. A cyclonic circulation is over west central Bay of Bengal of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coast. This cyclonic circulation was responsible for diversions of moisture laden winds away from northeastern parts of the country.
Whenever a weather system develops over central Bay of Bengal, winds tend to converge around that weather system and rain activity reduces over northeastern parts of the country.
Now this cyclonic circulation will move in the westerly direction and Andhra Pradesh and gradually over Telangana. The normal flow of moist winds from Bay of Bengal will resume over Northeastern states of India. This will lead to increase in moisture level and cloud formation.
We expect good rain and thundershower activity to commence over entire Northeast India, within next 24-48 hours.
Few areas may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. This rain activity will continue till the arrival of monsoon over Northeastern states of India.
Usually by June 10 the entire Northeastern states of India are covered by Southwest Monsoon. Monsoon this year has not yet been declared over Kerala. However heavy to very heavy rainfall is going on in Kerala and Karnataka since last many days. We expect that Monsoon will reach Northeastern states of India anytime by the end of second week of June.
