Pune has been receiving on and off light rain since last 4 to 5 days. But today (June 21, Sunday), very good rainfall activity has been witnessed in many areas of the city. Day temperature in the city has gone down and pleasant conditions prevail.
Strong westerly winds from the Arabian Sea are giving very heavy rainfall over coastal areas of Maharashtra. These winds are also increasing moisture over nearby districts of Thane, Raigad, and Pune. Skymet Meteorological Division in India expects good rainfall of varying intensity to continue over Pune for at least two to three days.
Though good rainfall is expected in Pune, it will not be uniform throughout the city. While some places are likely to receive heavy rainfall, others will witness light rainfall activity.
Heavy rain in Vidarbha expected to continue for 24 hours
Vidarbha has recorded very heavy rainfall since last 24 hours. Almost all the districts of Vidarbha have received heavy rainfall. In last 24 hours, Chandrapur recorded 200 mm rainfall, Amravati 51 mm, Yavatmal 51 mm, Wardha 49 mm, Nagpur 45 mm, and Brahmapuri received 38 mm rainfall.
Now, a depression over coastal Odisha will move in from westerly direction and rainfall will increase over Telangana and Vidarbha. Heavy rainfall is expected in Vidarbha region for another 24 hours. Thereafter, rain will shift towards East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
As Vidarbha is a rain dependent region, these rains are of vital importance. Especially in terms of ground water recharge and irrigation.
