Good rain to keep its hold over Mumbai, Gondia, Nagpur, Mahabaleshwar

During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain appeared over pockets of Vidarbha and Konkan and Goa. Simultaneously, scattered showers of light to moderate intensity were observed over Madhya Maharashtra. The weather over Marathwada division remained mainly dry throughout this time frame.

Rain activity amidst 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday was as follows: Gondia recorded 68 mm of rains, followed by Thane 64 mm, Mahabaleshwar 42 mm, Ratnagiri 20 mm, Sangli 18 mm, Harnai 16 mm, Nagour 15 mm, Mumbai 13 mm, Dahanu 11 mm, Kolhapur 11 mm, Vengurla 9 mm, Chandrapur 5 mm and Nashik 4 mm.

As a matter of fact, good rain and thundershowers have been in continuation over many parts of Maharashtra since the past few days. However, the intensity continued to be on the lower side over Marathwada.

As reported by Skymet weathermen, moderate with isolated heavy spells will continue over Vidarbha and Konkan and Goa for another 24 hours.

Thenceforth, the intensity of showers will curtail over Vidarbha along with North Konkan and Goa, still South Konkan and Goa and South Madhya Maharashtra may see scattered showers, particularly the cities of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Alibag and Kolhapur.

Concurrently, Pune, Mumbai and Thane may get light rain after 24 hours whilst Mahabaleshwar would continue with moderate to heavy showers for few more days.

As on August 28, the state of Maharashtra has seen excess rains by 6%. Division wise, Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra recorded rain surplus to the tune of 8%, each and Vidarbha and Marathwada saw 3% and 2% over normal rains, respectively.
