Good rain likely in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

August 16, 2015 2:44 PM |

Good rain likely in Uttar Pradesh and BiharThe month of June for Uttar Pradesh has been the best till now. According to the data available with Skymet, West Uttar Pradesh was surplus by 4 per cent by the end of June, while West Uttar Pradesh recorded a deficiency of 12 per cent. July was the leanest period for the state in terms of rainfall. By the end of the month West UP and East UP were staring at a deficiency of 18 per cent and 32 per cent, respectively.

The first half of August has also not been very encouraging enough and rain deficiency in East and West UP has increased to 38 per cent and 29 per cent, respectively.

But now, a low pressure area which was over the East Uttar Pradesh has shifted to north and central parts of the state. The axis of the Monsoon trough has also shifted North of Delhi and is passing through the northern parts of UP and Bihar.

Due to the combined effect of the systems, fairly widespread light to moderate rain is expected in Bihar and UP in next 2 days. Thereafter, the foothills of UP and Bihar will continue to receive good rain. However, from August 21, the aforementioned regions are expected to witness moderate to heavy Monsoon showers. One or two places may receive extremely heavy rain as well.

During the next 4 to 5 days, both the rain deficient areas of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will get some relief. However, it may not be enough to improve the rainfall figure but the spell will be beneficial for standing crops.
