Updated on October 29, 2015, 11:58 AM (IST): More rain expected in Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh
As reiterated by Skymet, an induced cyclonic circulation over Northwest Madhya Pradesh has given fairly widespread rain, thundershower over central and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh and several parts of Madhya Pradesh. The intensity of rain has been light to moderate, though one or two places have received heavy rain.
For instance, Agra and Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh received 25 mm and 20 mm of rain, respectively in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday. Aligarh also received 15 mm of rain.
In Madhya Pradesh, Jabalpur recorded 33 mm of rain, Satna 37 mm, Betul 22 mm, Sagar 16 mm and Gwalior 8 mm. Such type of rainfall activity in the month of October is uncommon.
Winter rains or post Monsoon rains over the northern plains occur in the wake of Western Disturbances. But sometimes a strong WD induces a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan or Madhya Pradesh, which affects the weather in the region.
Now this cyclonic circulation has moved in an easterly direction over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Northeast Madhya Pradesh. Good rain is expected to continue over Northeast Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh and western districts of Bihar in next 24 hours. Some areas of North Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand may also receive rain during this period.
By October 31, this weather system will become insignificant, but isolated light rain and partly cloudy sky could still be observed in the region for some time.
Notably, there are chances of hailstorm at some places in Madhya Pradesh like Datia, Damoh, Shivpuri and Tikamgarh. During pre-Monsoon and post-Monsoon season vertically developed clouds lead to hailstorms. March, April and October are the main months of hailstorm.

An upper air cyclonic circulation is over northwest Madhya Pradesh and its adjoining area. This weather system has given scattered rain over the entire region. For instance, Gwalior and Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh have received 4 mm of rain each in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday. Betul and Umaria have also received 6 mm and 2 mm of rain, respectively. During the same period Agra in Uttar Pradesh received 6 mm of rain.
Now the weather system will move in a northeast direction and give fairly widespread rain and thundershower over central parts of Uttar Pradesh and some parts of East Madhya Pradesh.
After 24 hours the weather system is likely to move in an easterly direction and start affecting East Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
By October 31 the system will become insignificant as a trough will merge with the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and start giving good amounts of rain over North Odisha and adjoining parts of West Bengal for 2 to 3 days.
This spell of rain will be helpful in improving the moisture content of the soil, considered good for Rabi crops.
It is to be noted that this is a period of hailstorm, therefore possibility of light hailstorm at few places in the region cannot be ruled out.
