Southwest Monsoon ended on a deficit note for the youngest state of the country, Telangana. Despite this, the post Monsoon season commenced on a rainy note wherein Hyderabad city even saw deluge causing rains on Monday.

However, since then a large fall in the rain activity over Hyderabad including other parts of Telangana has been observed and the heavy rains along with lightning strikes that resulted in submerged roads and traffic chaos, have curtailed to very light spells in the last 48 hours.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Wednesday Bhadrachalam recorded 21 mm of rains while very light spells to the tune of 0.6 mm were observed by Ramagundam. Nizamabad along with the capital city Hyderabad just recorded a few traces of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over Telangana. Moreover, another cyclonic circulation can be marked over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Bangladesh and a trough from this system is extending up to Telangana.

In the wake of this, moderate with isolated heavy rains are likely to occur in Telangana by October 6 or 7. Thereafter, this cyclonic circulation is expected to travel from Odisha to Chhattisgarh due to which rain belt will also shift away from Telangana towards Chhattisgarh. This will result in a significant decrease in rains over Telangana including Hyderabad. However, still on and off rains are likely to continue.

In terms of rainfall, the ‘city of Nizams’ Hyderabad usually records 103.6 mm of rains in the month of October and till date, the state capital has recorded 83.9 mm of rains. By adding the recent heavy downpour and possibility of some more showers, it seems that the city may be able to meet its monthly target.
