The low pressure area prevailing over coastal Tamil Nadu continues to give good rainfall over the state. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, coastal areas will continue to witness rain for next couple of days, thereafter reducing significantly both in terms of intensity as well as spread.
As per Skymet, the low pressure system is expected to weaken further and dissipate completely in next 48 hours leading to decline in rain.
In the span of last 24 hours, Cuddalore recorded 48 mm of rainfall, Karaikal 45 mm, Puducherry 31 mm, Parangipettai 42 mm, Nagapattinam 28 mm and Madurai 11 mm.
In view of the prevailing system, the day temperatures recorded over most parts of Tamil Nadu are below normal by two to five degrees, while minimum have remained unchanged. However, as the rain will reduce, weather would once again go dry and maximum temperatures will crawl back to normal.
Northeast Monsoon, which had picked up in last few days, will weaken once again, as most parts of south peninsular region will not witness any significant weather.
This spell of rain has come as a big relief to South India, Particularly Tamil Nadu and Kerala where Northeast Monsoon had taken a backseat in the last 2-3 weeks.
