Good Pre-Monsoon showers lash Kolkata, more rains today

Kolkata weather has remained not as warm as it usually is for at least the last few days. All thanks to the Pre-Monsoon showers that have been lashing the capital city of West Bengal. In fact, the entire week has seen some moderate showers over Kolkata.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, the Dum Dum Airport recorded a good 20 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, Alipore observatory witnessed a mere 0.8 mm of rainfall. These showers have been going on for quite some time keeping the mercury levels close to the normal levels.

These weather conditions have been attributed to the presence of a trough which was running from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal up to Gangetic West Bengal. Due to this, moisture incursion had been increasing over Kolkata resulting in cloud development, in turn resulting in some rains.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Pre-Monsoon activity is expected to continue over Kolkata today. In fact, the probability of afternoon and late evening showers over the City of Joy is quite high.

However, rains will take a backseat thereafter and dry weather will take over the city for the next 2 to 3 days. Thereafter, rains will once again pick up pace over the city around June 6 and 7. Just around that time, Southwest Monsoon will also make an appearance over the City of Joy.
