Good pre-Monsoon rains approaching hot and sultry Kolkata

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, a good spell of pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers is approaching Kolkata beginning Tuesday onwards.

The much awaited three-day spell will lead to abatement of ongoing heatwave conditions over the city for last several days. On Sunday, the city had recorded 40.1°C which was five degrees above the season’s average.

To begin with, Kolkata is expected to witness isolated light rain and thundershowers or thunderstorm activities on May 3. This will be on account of a cyclonic circulation that has developed over East Bihar and adjoining West Bengal and Jharkhand.

From May 4, the weather activity is likely to intensify as the system is likely to become more marked. It will also cover more areas and gather more moisture from the Bay of Bengal. Thus on May 4 and May 5, we are expecting some good scattered rain and thundershowers.

In wake of approaching wet spell, temperature will drop marginally during next 24 hours. Hence, we do not expect any major relief from hot and humid weather conditions on Tuesday. However, significant relief is likely Wednesday onwards.
