Southwest Monsoon has been bringing good Monsoon rains over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In fact, rains have continues for the second consecutive day.
Supaul in the foothills regions of Bihar received heavy showers during last 24 hours and recorded 52 mm. Gaya received 45 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours. Patna received 4.4 mm and Purnea 9.2 mm of rainfall.
In Uttar Pradesh, Bahraich received 84 mm and Varanasi 40 mm of rainfall during last 24 hours.
Skymet Weather expects widespread rains and overcast skies in both the states during next 24 hours. Few heavy spells are likely along the foothills of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
The axis of the Monsoon trough is likely to shift further northwards and lie near the foothills of the Himalayas. At present the trough is crossing through Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, entire Uttar Pradesh will continue to receive light to moderate rains.
A north-south trough is also extending from Bihar to Telangana. This will further enhance rains over Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
So far Bihar has received 21% less rains than normal. East Uttar Pradesh has received 10% less rains and West Uttar Pradesh 5% less rains than the normal Monsoon showers. This spell of rainfall is expected to reduce the rainfall deficiencies.
