Monsoon rains have remained mainly light in intensity over the southern state of Tamil Nadu. In fact, the last week of September has also been a lull period for the state wherein, most parts of the state have remained rain-free. Though, the coastal districts of the state were still in a better position in terms of witnessing rains.

In the last 24 hours also, most parts of Tamil Nadu had recorded light showers though the rains were of good intensity over the capital city, Chennai.

However, now the state of Tamil Nadu can anticipate some good rains making their appearance. As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation can be marked over North Andaman Sea. Moreover, a trough is also seen extending up to Lakshadweep Islands across North Tamil Nadu. Hence, in the wake of this, moderate showers with one or two heavy spells are expected to occur over the northern parts of Tamil Nadu and parts of the Nilgiri Hills for the next 2-3 days.

Thus, the districts such as Dharmapuri, Chennai, Salem, and Puducherry may witness moderate to isolated heavy spells. While the districts of South Tamil Nadu such as Madurai and Kanyakumari will receive scattered light rains.

Despite these light rains, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are in a rainfall surplus status. As on September 24, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are 29% rainfall surplus. Moreover, with the prediction of some good rains, the statistics are likely to enhance further.
