Scattered rains have been lashing over the state of Bihar since many days. However, during this period, heavy to very rains have not being witnessed by the state.

At present, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing across South of Bihar and Jharkhand. Therefore, it is anticipated that light scattered rains are likely to continue over Bihar for another 24 hours. Thereafter, the axis of monsoon trough may shift north over Bihar.

The shifting of the Monsoon trough will lead to an increase in rain intensity over the state. We expect light to moderate with few heavy spells to occur mainly over northern districts of Bihar such as Ararai, Kishanganj, and Supaul. These good rains will continue till August 12, thereafter the rain intensity may decrease but scattered rains will continue over the region.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Supaul witnessed moderate intensity rain of 16.2 mm. While in the same span of time Gaya received light rain to the tune of 7.7 mm, Patna 6 mm, Purnea 3 mm and Bhagalpur 1 mm of rain.

As on August 7, Bihar is rain deficient by 5 percent. With these ongoing rains, it is likely that the state will cover its rain deficiency and rain figures will crawl back to normal. In fact, there are good chances of it becoming surplus. During this time of year, rains are beneficial for agriculture point of view and with these continuous rains over Bihar, the agriculture produce will increase.
