Good Monsoon rains return to Kochi, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, more in store for Kerala

The West Coast region of the country has been recording good Monsoon showers throughout the Southwest Monsoon season. However, these showers have been escaping Kerala for many days. In fact, only light showers with isolated moderate spells have been observed since the last 24 hours. 

However, rains have picked up pace during the last 24 hours, with off-shore trough along the West Coast getting active once again.

In the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Kochi recorded 39.8 mm of rain, followed by Kozhikode 27 mm, Alappuzha 24.8 mm, Panalur 19.4 mm, Kannur 17.7 mm, Kottayam 17.2 mm and Thiruvananthapuram 2 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, an active trough continues to extend from North Maharashtra up to Kerala Coast. With this, North Coastal region of Kerala will receive moderate showers along with few heavy spells at one or two places during the next 24 to 48 hours. Whereas other parts of the state will continue to receive fairly widespread of light to moderate rain and thundershower activities.

As on July 19, Kerala continues to remain rain deficient by 24 percent but with good rains in offing we expect, the situation will improve up to some extent.
