Good Monsoon rains return to Hyderabad, to intensify further

September 20, 2016 7:32 AM | Skymet Weather Team

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, Hyderabad once again started recording Monsoon rains. In span of 21 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, the state capital recorded 10 mm of rain.

All thanks to the fresh weather system that has developed in west-central Bay of Bengal. The system is presently prevailing over west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal off the coastal areas of Coastal Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh.

As we proceed further, we expect intensity of rain to pick up the pace significantly as the system will move westward and cross the coast. Entire state of Telangana including Hyderabad is likely to record mainly moderate showers during the next 24-48 hours.

Few places are also likely to receive some spells of heavy to very heavy rains as well.

September has begun on rainy note for the state as well as the capital city. On and off Monsoon rains of varying intensity have been lashing most parts of the state. These rains can be attributed to the back to back Monsoon systems forming in Central Bay of Bengal in September, which later on travelled westwards towards Telangana.

As a result, Telangana has been able to manage the status of surplus Monsoon rainfall. As on September 19, the cumulative rainfall surplus for the state stands at 2%. Now with fresh spell of good rains in offing, we expect rain surplus to increase.
