Isolated rains likely over Gujarat by May end

Monsoon continues to be active over Gujarat, giving moderate to heavy rains over the state. The state has been recording good rains for the last many days and July has also begun on the similar note.

These conditions can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Southeast Gujarat and the off-shore trough which has been running along the West Coast from South Gujarat to Kerala. These systems have been attracting humid winds from the Arabian Sea, leading to the development of intense lightning and thunderclouds over the state.

Most parts of the state saw some good spells of rains, wherein in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Deesa recorded 60.2 mm of rain, Ahmedabad 38.8 mm, Idar 38.3 mm, Baroda 38.2, Bhavnagar 33.3 mm, Veraval 25 mm, Amreli 17.2 mm, Rajkot 10.1 mm, and Surat 6 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, both the weather systems are likely to prevail over the region. Thus, rains of varying intensity will continue over several parts of the state for the next 24 to 48 hours. Few areas could see some heavy spells as well.
After reaching South Gujarat, the progress of Monsoon had been sluggish. However, Monsoon has now covered the entire state. As on June 28, the cumulative rainfall deficiency for Gujarat stands at 28%.
