Good Monsoon rains likely over Nagpur, Gondia, Chandrapur

The state of Maharashtra has been witnessing a few good spells of rain for quite some time now. However, Southwest monsoon has not had a good run with the entire state so far. At present, the Konkan region is witnessing a rainfall surplus of 4% with Madhya Maharashtra witnessing excess rains at 12%. However, both Marathwada and Vidarbha are rain deficient at 6 and 26%, respectively.

During the past 24 hours, good showers were observed over some parts of Maharashtra. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 a.m on Saturday, Washim recorded 30 mm of rain, Yavatmal 13 mm, Brahmapuri 11 mm, Chandrapur 8 mm, Nagpur 1 mm and Nasik 16 mm.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the presence of the off-shore trough along the West Coast and the presence of a low-pressure area over Rajasthan region.

As per weatherman at Skymet, light rains are likely over parts of Vidarbha during the next 24 hours. Rainfall intensity will increase thereafter with moderate showers occurring over some parts of East Vidarbha including Nagpur, Gondia, Chandrapur.

These weather conditions will be attributed to the low-pressure area which is over Northwest Bay of Bengal and is likely to shift West towards the Maharashtra region. Temperatures will remain in check and settle below the normal levels in many parts.
