The Southwest Monsoon has remained active in the southern districts of Gujarat during the last couple of days. And this is the reason why these areas are observing good rains since the last two to three days.

Moderate rains with one or two heavy spells were recorded in parts of Gujarat in the last 24 hours. Places such as Valsad, Ahmedabad, Porbandar, Rajkot, and Surat were the ones to witness good rains. Whereas, Okha, Saurashtra and Kutch region received scattered rains only.

According to Skymet Weather, a Cyclonic Circulation is over South Gujarat and adjoining area. A Trough is extending from this circulation up to Coastal Karnataka. The humid winds from the Arabian Sea are also feeding moisture. These systems will result in moderate showers with isolated heavy spells over the southern parts of the state such as Surat, Valsad, Dang, Panchmahal and adjoining area. Several other places like Baroda, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad will also observe scattered rain and thundershower activities.

However, the intensity will be mainly light over the central districts of Gujarat. These activities are likely during the next two to three days.

Further, from July 27 to 29, we expect, the rainfall activities to increase over southern areas, particularly over Sabarkantha, Palanpur, Banaskantha, Mehsana, Patan, Bhuj, Naliya and Rann of Kutch.

On July 28, there are chances of moderate to heavy showers over the northern districts as well. These showers would be essential in easing out the drought-like situation that North Gujarat is currently going through. Moreover, these rains would be beneficial for the crops that are on the verge of drying up. The spell would surely boost the morale of many farmers.

As on July 24, the state of Gujarat (as a whole) is rain deficient by 55%, wherein the Gujarat region is rain deficient by 33% and Saurashtra and Kutch region by 55%. The upcoming spells would definitely improve the rainfall statistics of the state.
